The exhibition will be made up of works produced by students at the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin, selected via a juried competition. The theme of the exhibition is ‘Belonging’, and the title is Take me there, speaking to the desire many individuals have to be taken to a place where they can feel whole, where they truly belong. The pop-up will coincide with the current exhibition at Heong Gallery, Stephen Chambers: The Court of Redonda, which touches upon related themes such as identity, utopia, and place. Together, The Court of Redonda and Take me there will showcase the longing we share to feel at home somewhere.
Our group has hosted reading groups, workshops, film screenings, and talks related to identity politics, visual technology, and migration, providing us with an appropriate understanding of the sensitivity of this topic. Through this pop-up exhibition, we hope to share our own findings with the greater Cambridge community, alongside works of art created by students from a myriad of backgrounds. Although ephemeral in nature, this utopic pop-up exhibition will properly showcase the multiculturalism of Cambridge, allowing visitors to experience where we all wish we belonged.
